A Day at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition: A Tradition of Art and Celebration

News posted 30th July 2024

I recently had the pleasure of attending the exhibitor’s preview day, a day steeped in tradition. The day began with a procession to St James Church, Piccadilly, where a special service was held for the artists—a tradition that dates back to the 18th century. This experience was both humbling and inspiring, reminding me of the rich history and the community that binds artists together.

After the service, we were treated to prosecco and canapés while we explored the exhibition. The galleries were brimming with creativity, each room offering something unique and thought-provoking. It took me some time to locate my painting, which had been selected by the renowned Hurvin Anderson RA and displayed in Room 5. Standing in that room, surrounded by works from artists I deeply admire, including Barbara Rae, Tom Hammick, and Peter Doig, was an overwhelming experience. It’s hard to describe the pride and joy I felt to be in such esteemed company.

On top of this, I am thrilled to announce that my painting, Stone Pines Rome, has been selected for the Summer Exhibition. This recognition is incredibly exciting, especially as I’ve been working tirelessly on my solo show, which opens this September. To have my work featured at the Royal Academy feels like the icing on the cake of what has been an intensely rewarding year of artistic development.
